Building a Brighter Future for All
WELCOME TO ANOMURA HOUSING SOCIETY
At Anomura Housing Society we’re innovating shelter for our changing world. We believe that housing is a right and quality housing should be affordable for everyone. By rethinking some of our core assumptions about shelter, we found opportunities to make housing more adaptable, more environmental, and more affordable. We are evolving housing for the 21st century and its ever changing needs. Please join us.
WHAT WE DO
At Anomura Housing Society, we strive to be one of our region's most creative housing providers. We are a BC Registered Society dedicated to the creation of accessible housing solutions for all members of our community. During our proof-of-concept, we are working with service providers to create a series of demonstration projects on multiple sites. Learn about our exciting initiatives, and how they work to create change in the housing market.
NEW APPROACH TO LAND USE
Preserving Highest Use
An Anomura house is movable! That makes for two important differences. First, we leverage much greater affordability by separating land costs from building costs. Second, rather than letting underutilized land sit empty while its highest use is determined, we create housing immediately. When the larger project is ready to move forward, the Anomura house simply moves.
NEW APPROACH TO BUILDING
Typical modular construction is designed to be moved into place and thereafter be permanent. Anomura homes are built to a higher, fully-demountable standard to ensure continued mobility. Think of our homes like lego-blocks. You can put one together how you want, and then take it apart, and put it together somewhere else using the same configuration or a new one.
NEW APPROACH TO FINANCE
By separating land from capital costs we achieve greater affordability, opening doors to all kinds of opportunities for our clients. In some cases this means more supportive housing options, but it can also mean pushing the rungs of the financial ladder lower to help more people access the economic benefits of home ownership.
